Roy Brown III Named Deputy Athletic Director

SPRINGFIELD, IL --- The University of Illinois Springfield Department of Athletics has announced the addition of Roy L. Brown, III as the Deputy Athletics Director. He will be responsible for leading the external affairs efforts supporting 15 intercollegiate sports.

Brown joins the UIS staff after spending three and half years at Towson University as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for External Relations, later renamed Marketing & Communications.

"The Illinois Springfield athletic department got a lot stronger today with the addition of Roy," said Director of Athletics, Jim Sarra. "Bringing over 16 years of college athletic experience and a track record that speaks for itself, Roy is going to be an integral part in taking UIS athletics where we strive to go. We are excited for him to get started and continue moving this department forward."

During his tenure at the Greater Baltimore area school, he was responsible for and oversaw the external affairs area that included marketing, promotions, communications and media relations, advertising, multimedia, Towson Sports Network, video services, Towson Sports Properties (corporate sponsorship), tickets, game presentation, licensing and branding.  He was also involved with the ticket sales.  Brown was the driving force behind several attendance records, and significant ticket revenue and licensing growth.  He led the external efforts for the 2014 Division I Women's Lacrosse National Championships, resulting in a sellout and setting the attendance record.

Prior to Towson University, Brown spent seven years at Fairfield University in Connecticut as the Associate Director of Athletics for Sports Marketing & Promotions.  He was responsible for all marketing plans, promotional events, sponsorship management and fulfillment, branding, community outreach initiatives, game presentation and digital marketing tactics.  In addition, Brown served as the tournament director for the 2008 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball First and Second Rounds. In 2009, 2011 and 2012, he directed the marketing efforts the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey East Regional, and 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Regional.

Prior to Fairfield University, Brown served as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Marketing & Community Relations for Southeastern Louisiana University. In that role, Brown was responsible for revenue generation, marketing, public relations and community initiatives.  He also created, implemented and managed overall corporate sponsorship programs.

Brown graduated from the NCAA Leadership Institute for Minority Males and Females (2008).  He is a current member of NACDA, NACMA and ICLA.

A graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, he has received degrees in both Psychology and Public Relations.

A native of New Orleans, LA, he resides in Chatham, IL.
